Images: Editing

Using an app on my iphone called vintage cam, It enabled me to edit some of my pictures allowing me to change the main colour scheme of my choice. I also used a special gadget which created a fish eye effect on my images. I may use these edited pictures for my final front cover, contents page or double page spread.

Photoshoot

 I have now conducted my photo shoot which you will see below. I mainly used one model but did have another model just to see how a two shot would look. I used a number of different shots and angles so that i have a wide range of pictures to choose from. I set up a plain white background also with the use of lights to make my model stand out. I also went outside to take some of my pictures and made my models pose with different props and on top of buildings. Here are some of my pictures :)

        

MixMag

Mix Mag is a music magazine based around the dance/electro genre, which will be like my music magazine. I really like these two front covers even though one of them isn't a dance/electro magazine, as it has a main picture of Calvin Harris with the cover line to go with it. I like the white space on the page as it creates a calm look and makes the magazine look of quite a high class. But the factor I like about the "VIBE" magazine is the black and white picture with the bright coloured title.

Here are many different types of font for my front cover. The title of my front cover is remix, so this will be the big mast head on the page. Please vote for your favourite, the lists down below shows the name of each font going from top left downwards to top right downwards.

The Treatment

The Magazine: Target readership: Remix is a new magazine aimed at both male and females who enjoy and maybe admire dance/electro music. The reader of this magazine will be aged around 18 to 24 but could appeal to anybody surrounding them or even an unspecified age. The readers from about 18-21 will mainly rely on their parents for finance; with maybe a small job in retail. Their parents are most likely to fall into the C1/C2 socioeconomic but readers from about 22-24 will mainly work and earn their own wage, from a range of different jobs.

  They will mainly be mainstreamers, who will not want to challenge media content but will also maybe aspirers, who would like to be into this specific music category and think highly off the artists/ celebrities as they might look to them as role models. Their fashion will be like dance/eletro artists and quite dominant, colourful and loud. They will have a desire for this type of music and will want the latest music, gossip, news, clothing and accessories.  The reader of Remix would have grown up in a country with equality of each gender type. They will understand that hard work will lead to success like their role models in the magazine, and will want to be in the socioeconomic group A. The reader will be interested in fashion and the latest trends, and will also like dancing and may watch shows such as "Got to Dance".

Form and Style: Remix magazine will have an A4 front cover and contents page, but an A3 double page spread like the picture to the right. It will be a classy magazine containing different celebrities, news, awards, albums, gossip, trends and features of mainly big artists. The main theme of the magazine will be a bold style with possibly some graffiti as this relates well with the targeted audience. The cover picture will be of a famous dance/electro star and will portray this genre of music well. Competitions may also be included to attract the reader as well as a free gift. The magazine will be sold at £4.50 which is well priced as the reader will get a lot for their money, with the free gift, competitions and many informative articles and interviews. The cover lines will also be the most enticing pages within the magazine and will be about what the main reader wants to know. I may also use a graphic on the page to emphasis a specific topic that i would want the reader to recognise.

Theme and typical features: Features that will appear in the magazine often will be a well known artist involved in the genre dance/electro with an interview of the artist inside the magazine. This will also create a sense of familiarity of the magazine and will be expected by readers. This magazine will mainly be about music but will also include topics like latest trends, news, celebrity gossip, real-life stories and reviews. The celebrity gossip will be a central focus and will be summarised in every issue, as well as looking at the reviews from albums, films and games. The mode of address will be quite friendly inviting the audience into the magazine allowing them to experience a welcoming feeling.

Potential advertisers: Remix will advertise a range of brands with each issue, to do with fashion, music and maybe some other smaller brands, such as:

Editorial team:The editorial team for Remix will be made up of designers who have been in that business for a long time and
are very professional. It will also consist of high class writers 
who can decided on the catchy cover lines, and make the
articles of a good quality. The team will be made up from both 
gender types so that the magazine will have a view of equality 
and ideas are fair.

Photoshoot: Plan

For my photoshoot I will use a family member called George to act as a famous artist. I will have to take into consideration all of the different key features of taking a good photograph, as the photo is one of the main features within the magazine and may make up the readers mind on whether they will buy the magazine or not.


Location

The location of my photoshoot will either be in a rural area, like the forest as it is quiet and different to the normal everyday busy place or at my house with a plain white background.The other option of my photoshoot will be in a skate park where there will be a lot of graffiti backgrounds which will fit my genre nicely. The location is key for this photoshoot because it could make my pictures look very professional and of a high quality. The targetted readers of my magazine will be interested in looking at lots of pictures as they would prefer a higher ratio of pictures to text.

 Clothing and makeup

The clothing I will use would consist of the dance/electro styled clothing as my model will need to look realistic and as if he actually is a celebrity. I will use accessories such as a big headphones and flat caps as quite a lot of stars wear these kinds of accessories. It is important that my model is dressed in the correct clothing to fit the genre as these will either make my magazine look cheap or classy and worth the readers money. I may apply makeup to my model maybe to cover possible spots to give him a clear complexion. I will need to also play around with my model hair so that it looks perfect and fits in with the genre.

Lighting

I may be outside for my photoshoot which means the natural lighting will be shown which I cannot change. I will most likely shoot in the day which mean it will be quite bright and a clear shot. But i am also considering shooting my model in the night to give a dark look about it. This means I will need to use some form of light to make sure my model does stand out and that the photo is clear. If I shoot, inside the house I will use different lights to light up the set so that you can see the model, using simple objects such as fairy lights.

Position in frame

My front cover picture ideally, will probably be a mid close up image or a mid shot of my model as I can then place the cover lines around the picture. If that type of image is used it will be the main focus of the page and will attract audiences eye. For the double page spread I will use long shots of the model showing the location as a dominant part of the picture. When taking my photographs I will make sure that I use a wide range of different camera shots so that I have a wide option of images to choose from. 

Different Editing

There are many software's that will allow me to adjust my picture from cropping the image to changing the lighting or colour of the image. I will use a software like photoshop to develop my picture to its final state. I have an idea of either a coloured background with my model in black or white and vice a versa, as I think this will have a unique effect on my magazine. Or I may use a black and white picture with the cover lines being the dominant feature of colour on the page.

Questionairre: Results

As well as posting my questionnaire on my blog I also printed out copies which I gave out to a varied audience of both gender types and all ages to receive back a fair result.


After taking into consideration all of my results both on my blog and after receiving my printed copies I have decided on the final details.


Alot of people have voted that they already read music magazine which relates well to my task as I am producing a magazine with the sub genre music. This re-assures me on the fact that people will take an interest into my magazine and that it will go to good use. Again many people voted that they would be amused by a music magazine.


The average answer opted for how much the audience would pay for the magazine was from £4.01 to £5.00. As this was the modal answer chosen, I will sell my magazine at the cost of £4.50 as it is roughly in between £4.01 and £5.00.


I will also with my magazine sell a free gift as this will persuade audiences to buy my magazine and is very attractive to the audience. For the money that they will have to pay, I think the reader will get a lot for their money and this will make the user remember the magazine and maybe by future issues.


For the target market aged question, equal selected answers was from 16-20 years olds and 21-25 year olds, and because of this result I will make my magazine for about 18-24 year olds but anyone could read it if it appeals to them.


The genre of music that got the most votes was to base my magazine around hip-hop. But I have decided to go against this idea due to the fact that I will find it quite hard to get pictures of a model looking like a hip-hop artist. Instead I am going to base my magazine around the genre of dance/electro music as I will be able to relate to this quite well.


If the public enjoyed my magazine they voted that they would like to see and read another issue. This means that my magazine will have to be published quite often which leads into my next answer of how often a issue should come out in which every two weeks and monthly was opted the most. I would probably make a new issue of my magazine monthly which will give me a long time to plan ahead on the different features and designs within the magazine.


The name of my magazine will be Remix due to mainly being recommended on a couple of my questionnaires that i received back, my preference and also a vote on my poll.


Lastly a lot of people said that they would like to see in depth interviews on different bands and celebrities as well as many images. Not to many adverts should be used or huge chunks of writing on one article or topic, unless the page is an interview.
