Last Post :(

Here is my final post and I can now say that I have now completed my As coursework :) I hope you enjoyed reading my blog and liked my pages :)

Audience Feedback

Above is a video giving some feedback on my front cover :) Due to filming horizontally on my iphone the interview with the 22 year old and 40 year old did not come out in very high quality.

Audience feedback was important to me throughout the process of creating my pages because I was supplied with constant information and feedback mainly through post comments on how I could improve my pages so that they were the best they could possibly be. The questionnaire helped me gain lots of useful insights to what readers will want and how I should create my product. I think making a questionnaire in the process of creating is a very good method allowing myself to find out how I can improve my product and how well it is actually going.

My last task was to actually go around asking a numerous number of people from the public face to face to find out their thoughts on my pages and plus who they think the target audience are. I also mention that if they could how would they improve each of my pages or what else they would like to see feature in the magazine.

Remix Evaluation

Remix Media EvaluationBelow is a presentation which shows my answers to the evaluation questions:1. In what ways does your media product use, develop use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.  2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Mixmag is the one magazine on the market which I would say is the most similar to my magazine as it concentrates on the same genre of dance and electro music. It has similar characteristics to my magazine and would be the biggest competitor to the Remix production.
As you can see below both Mixmag and Remix front covers have:

  • Bright colours
  • One main picture
  • A free CD
  • Barcode
  • Masthead
  • Cover lines

I do not believe that there is a clear gap in the market for my magazine as Mixmag already has a strong following but I do think that for each genre of music there is an opportunity for a small number of different magazines. For example the genre rock music is focused on magazines like Kerrang and Uncut which gives me comfort that there would be demand for Remix magazine.

A media company would want to distribute my magazine due to the fact that:

  1. Contains important content specific to the dance and electro genre.
  2.  It relates well with a youngish audience from 18-24 year olds.
  3. Very aesthetically pleasing on the eye.
  4. For a music magazine including a free CD it is a premium product but not overly expensive.
  5. Quality of images are very professional and of a high standard
  6. Great, exclusive interviews with big stars and celebrities
  7. Chatty style of writing will create the relation between the audience and magazine
  8. Free CD will entice a range of audiences to the magazine
During my research I found out there was strong demand for music magazines and decided that my favourite style of magazine Q was distributed by Bauer consumer media. The Bauer group are a highly successful distribution company and it would be amazing if they would consider distributing Remix due to the professionalism and the knowledge that the company has gained from its proven track record of distributing magazines like Q. My magazine if distributed by Bauer media group would not clash with the other magazines that they work with as Remix would be the only dance and electro magazine available and I believe they would be interested in distributing my product as it would be highly profitable as well as adding to their overall brand value.

Remix Evaluation 2

Below shows another presentation showing the answers to two other evaluation questions which are:

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
6. Who would be the audience for your media product?

7. Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back to my preliminary task I have learnt much more about the different technologies that I have used and how to work the software to my advantage. I discovered so many more tools for example on photoshop which allowed me to do so much more extra to my product and making it more detailed. All the tools on offer I took advantage off which gave me a more professional looking piece of work.

 Re-searching into more topic
throughout my coursework like how to take good images allowed me to improve my pages and make my product more suitable for the target market audience. My school magazine was harder to plan due to the lack of school magazines I had access to but with my main task I felt like I could progress because there were so many more music magazine available that I could look at. Gaining access to more magazines meant that I could find out the codes and conventions of each type of music magazine more thoroughly and know what I wanted and could include in my own product.

Also I have learnt about the magazine industry and how much competition there is nowadays between each type of magazine. I also learnt how many different music magazines are published and what the critical issues to ensure success are.

Double Page Spread:First Draft

Using Indesign I have started to create my double page spread. Firstly I drew my text boxes where I inserted the interview with Georgie Baker and secondly added in a banner of small pictures of him. I then decided to play around with an image that I was considering putting on the right hand side of the page and placed the image on the bottom right hand corner in the blank white space.

Contents Page: Third Draft

Firstly I have now added another picture and a graphic to the bottom of the page. Please vote on whether you like the pink arrows going along the whole of the bottom of the page or only half way across. Lastly I need to add a picture where there is a blank space :)

Plan of Article

Interview for the double page spread:

Georgie Baker was just an ordinary boy, making tracks in his bedroom from the age of just twelve. Uploading his videos to Youtube, Georgie was contacted by a huge range of well known record labels and asked to sign a contract with each one. The competition was high and after much thought by Georgie himself, a contract was signed and he is now one of the biggest music sensations of his time. We caught up with him backstage at his recent gig in London.

Hey George! It’s been quite a busy year for you, what have you been up too?

I have been a very busy boy the last year, especially being a new artist coming into this crazy world of music. As well as working many hours in the studio and playing at lots of gigs, I have managed to party quite hard like last night at the biggest club in London - Ultra. I’m the new boy on the block and I’m loving it. I have to say this is my year. (Smiles)

What has been the highlight of your year?

I don’t really know because I have really had so many great experiences this year that I would love to share with you, but you would be here for a very long time. Probably the most exciting time for me had to be launching my first ever record and it hitting number 1 in the charts. The fan’s support this year has been amazing, I love them!

What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done?

Well well well, I’m not sure I can share with you...such mad times (Laughs) Only joking, let’s just say I have received lots of women’s underwear on the stage with me.

What inspired you to put your homemade videos onto Youtube?

I have always loved music from a very young age and my Mum always told me to pursue music as a career and follow my dreams. So one day I made a quick recording off myself, set up a Youtube account and uploaded my videos. I started to get more and more views and comments which made me upload a number of homemade videos. I really have my Mum to thank for giving me the confidence to do this!

Have you got any advice for other teenagers like you?

Just follow your dreams and never give up on trying. Always stick to what you love and don’t listen to anybody else telling you otherwise.

Tell us about your new single "Mad", where did you get the idea for the song from...

It’s great! I first heard the demo when I was travelling to Spain for a gig and fell in love with the song straight away. I then changed some of the lyrics to fit my style and made it more like me changing the beat to make it a bit more up tempo.

The music video for "Mad"comes out in two weeks, and you have people working on the video who have worked with Calvin Harris and Basshunter. Are you pleased with the end result?

I have never been so pleased, the people I worked with were awesome and have made the whole video from start to finish absolutely brilliant. Hopefully all my fans will enjoy it! All I have to say is - Calvin watch out, I’m unstoppable.

You are currently working on your first album right now. How is it
coming along?

It is going really well right now but I am going to Barbados for two weeks and hope to finalise the album while I am there as just being in the Caribbean always gives me inspiration and I seem to be able to be at my most creative in such a chilled out environment.

If your album goes to number 1, how will you be celebrating?

I will probably have a big party for my close relatives and all of my best friends as I do not have as much time for them as I would like to. I may also go on one major spend up in the local shopping mall and buy loads of video games for me and maybe a cheeky getaway trip.

I heard a rumour that you will be doing a European tour. Is this true?

Let’s just say that rumour is a real possibility and something that I would love to do so watch this space. (Smiles)

We take that as a yes then?

You said it!

What are your plans for the future Georgie?

I plan to tour the world and hopefully make people happy through listening to my music. I was just an ordinary boy a year ago and I still am, I want to make people live out their dreams.

The word is on the street that you may also have a girlfriend? Would you like to clarify this for your lady fans?

I am having a brilliant time at the moment, but I can assure you ladies out there that I am not in a committed relationship right now. (Laughs)

Georgie we have loved speaking to you, good luck for the future and thank you for taking the time to speak to us.

It has been a pleasure, thank you very much. (Smiles)
Georgie Bakers new album "Strange" comes out on the 25th March and you can order it early online from www.thebestofmusic.co.uk.

Contents Page: Inspiration

This contents page is from a magazine which is called Vibe and is of the hip-hop genre. I really like the style of this contents page and like the design on both sides of the writing as it bring a good sense of colour to the page. I think it looks very classy with the white background but may not fit my genre of dance/electro. I like the strong bold black style of writing for each piece of writing on the page and like the way there are sub headings, with the main pictures at the top of the page and smaller pictures next to the content.

But I also like this contents page especially the set up and layout of the title, contents and pictures. It suits my genre of music and magazine as It has more going on, on the page making it a little more crowded then the Vibe contents page which I liked.
